My first stained glass painting dates to 2000; my inspiration – a Tiffany window from St. Michael’s Episcopal. Most of my walking tours include St. Michael’s, the oldest church building in the center of Charleston, built before the Revolutionary War. My admiration for the window led me to attempt to recreate it in paint on canvas. There were others that I loved as well, and the series began. Charleston is called “The Holy City” because of her many, and various, houses of worship, the result of a strong tradition of religious freedom; many groups immigrated to the early settlement seeking a place where they could worship freely.
